Hey there, eco mumma!

Hey there, eco mumma!

Our bamboo menstrual pads have arrived!

It is estimated that every woman will use around 10,000 disposable menstrual products in her lifetime and just like disposable nappies they take hundreds of years to break down in our landfill!

Disposable menstrual pads and tampons are an expensive monthly necessity for women. The scary fact is that when you use disposable menstrual products you are exposing your most delicate area to an array of chemicals. Disposable menstrual pads and tampons contain bleached cottons and plastics as well as a concoction of hazardous chemicals. Exposure to these chemicals have been linked to cancer, endocrine issues, skin irritations and reproductive problems. Shocking right?

A fantastic eco-friendly (and Vagina-friendly) alternative to disposable menstrual products is to purchase reusable cloth pads. These reusable pads not only save your lady bits from sitting in a concoction of nasty chemicals each month but they also save you money!

Our pads are available in four sizes - Liner, Day-flo, Night and Maternity. Our Day-flo pads and night pads are also suitable for women who experience light to moderate bladder incontinence giving you the confidence to sneeze or cough in public again without having to worry about any embarrassing leakage. We've got you covered!

The top lining and core layers of our pads are 100% unbleached bamboo cotton. Natural and sustainable this fabric is also naturally has antimicrobial properties and is breathable as well as super absorbent. Our backing layer is made of PUL which is water resistant to prevent leaks but still breathable. Our pads are designed with comfort and discretion in mind. They are ultra thin without compromising on the number of core layers need for adequate absorption.

Tips for using our cloth pads:

  • Wear firm fitting underwear to help hold your pad close to your body
  • Adjust as needed throughout the day - sometimes with movement they can slip down slightly but this is minimised by wearing firm fitting underwear.

Washing your pads:

There are two methods of caring for your pads and the decision is yours as to what YOU feel works better in your household.

First Method:

  • Rinse your cloth pads after use to remove any residue, it is best if you rinse until the water runs clear to help avoid staining

  • Soak in cold water overnight, ensuring to change the water daily (You can add a small amount of laundry detergent to the soak water if desired).

  • Add pads in with your general washing - using only cold water to prevent any stains setting in.

  • If concerned about stains spray your pads with stain remover prior to putting them into the washing machine.

  • Dry in the sun with the cotton lining facing UP for best results or tumble dry on low heat setting.

Ensure your soak bucket is kept OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AND SECURED WITH A TIGHT FITTING LID.

Second Method:

  • Rinse your cloth pads after use to remove any residue. Rinse until water runs clear

  • Store in "dry pail" (basket without water) with good air ventilation. A small laundry basket or rubbish bin can work well. Anything with holes/gaps in the sides is ideal.

  • Spray any pads that have slight discolouration with stain remover spray

  • Add pads in with your general washing - using only cold to prevent any stains setting in.

  • Dry in the sun with the cotton lining facing UP for best results or tumble dry on low heat setting.
