I love to know a bit about the companies I choose to support, so I thought I would share a bit about our beginning, for all our customers. X
Rhonda and I launched Boho Babes in 2017 with the aim to provide high quality products at an affordable price to Australian families. We designed a OSFM with all the features I loved at the time - inner gussets, a generous fitting shell for chubby thighs or taller bubs, absorbent inserts and gorgeous prints!
Rhonda and I are not only business partners but also family, she is my mother-in-law, neighbour and good friend. Some people are surprised that we went into business together and warned we would regret it but 3 years on and we are still working great together.
After we had decided our business name, we spent months researching to find a factory that aligned with our ethos and allowed us to make a very small initial order as we only had $500 to invest upfront.
We contacted artists and created patterns for the fabrics many of which became favourites amongst our customers - Koalas, Turtles and Burgundy floral to name a few.
While we awaited our products to be produced I began to create our website, something I had minimal knowledge about prior. It was very basic with limited functions.
Back then, prior to covid19 it would only take 4 to 6 days and we refreshed the transit tracking page every few hours hoping to see an update that our nappies were on their way to us. The day finally came and I still clearly remember the excitement of opening our very first package of nappies. They had very thin 5 layer bamboo inserts but other then that they were perfect - we were so excited!
Then the worry set in, "What if we couldn't sell the nappies?" - we would be stuck with them all!
Despite our fears we made our first sale about 6 days after we launched the website. Eventually we made another sale and then another and then about 6 months later we had a record month and sold $300 worth of stock! We were thrilled and thought we were amazing. 🤣
We continued to slowly grow Boho Babes. Designed new products, new prints, commissioned new artists, made some improvements, smashed new monthly sales records and even made some friends along the way. We never thought Boho Babes would be more then a hobby and never in our wildest dreams imagined that there would be thousands of our nappies and products out in the World.
It is such a surreal feeling to see someone recommend your product on a facebook group or to see a baby out in public wearing your nappies. So much love has gone into our business and there are no words to describe how thankful we are to each of our customers, stockists, enthusiasts for supporting us along the way.
